In June 2001 Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC) announced a new copyright licensing agency formed specifically to serve the needs of the religious community.
The new independent licensing agency-Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI)-will provide a new low-cost license to churches, Christian schools, and all other church-operated sites to show not only Christian videos but other family value titles as well. The CVLI license will allow copyrighted home videocassettes and discs to be used for public performances in all church locations for a single annual fee.
The new CVLI license will make things easier and less confusing for churches and Christian schools to use segments from, or entire, movies and videos in their services and small-group studies without having to pay extra or to ask each company for permission. CVLI will serve the licensing needs of the entire religious community in the United States and Canada.
To date, CVLI has added more than 25 Christian producers to the list of MPLC licensors, bringing the total number to more than 50 producers. Schools currently licensed by MPLC have been notified that when the time comes for renewal, their licenses will be transferred to CVLI.
CVLI's fee structure for churches has been closely patterned after CCLI's successful licensing practice that links the fee to the size of the church and/or school membership. License fees for schools and child care centers remain similar to MPLC's rates, and ACSI members receive a 10 percent discount from the rates. For direct information, contact CVLI at 1-888-302-6020 or visit their website at www.cvli.org. At the CVLI website, you will find a list of the producers that are using CVLI for the public performance licensing of their videos.
