It's becoming more common. Pastors use portions of movies to enhance sermon points. Sunday School teachers and childcare workers play a full-length feature. Youth leaders show the latest videos. Educators use movies to train and inspire.

What's The Big Deal?

Most of us fast-forward right through that copyright warning at the beginning of videos and DVDs. Ever wonder what it actually says? The Australian Copyright Act stipulates copyright works such as videos and DVDs are not authorised for public performances, and are only licensed for home use. Special permission must be granted for any public performance - and that includes churches. Violations can result in substantial fines.

The Church Video Licence

Now, there's an affordable, convenient solution. Christian Copyright Licensing, Inc. (CCLI) and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC) have partnered to create Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI) and the Church Video Licence, which offers blanket copyright coverage for video titles from more than 60 producers.

NOTE: The Church Video Licence does not cover materials that have been copied from another source or recorded from television. It also does not cover advertising specific titles publicly or charging an admission fee. The Church Video Licence is location specific, and showing videos at other locations is not covered.
